Professor Sun worked for the Chinese Petroleum Ministry (as Department Director of the Information Centre) before studying his MSc and PhD at the University of Dundee's Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy between 1996 and 2000. He later worked for the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and was deeply involved in the negotiation and signing of contracts for a large number of collaborative projects for CNPC at home and abroad. He also served as President of the CNPC Research Institute of Economics and Technology (RIET), the CNPC’s think tank and the most influential one from China’s energy sector, until the end of 2015. In 2016 Professor Sun was elected as the fourth Secretary-General of the International Energy Forum (IEF). www.dundee.ac.uk/cepmlp
