The old laughing Lady, written by Neil Young, was released in 1968 on his solo debut album . Later on it came back several times on collection albums, such as Decade (1977), Sugar mountain - Live at Canterbury House 1968 (2008), Unplugged ( 2003 ) and The archives full. 1 1963-1972 (2009).
He originally intended it for the latest Buffalo Springfield album; an early version of the song he would also have written and sung with Stephen Stills . He shared the guitar part with Ry Cooder ; Cooder was co-producer of this number and at that time also did not break through. Furthermore, it was produced by Jack Nitzsche and Young himself.
Several covers appeared on the number. Parts of the song come back in the song Slack hands of the London acid jazz group Galliano . This song was released in five versions on a single in 1996: a single version and a bonus version and also mixes of Aphex , Aquasky and Fila Brazillia .
